Nightcliff Primary has a proud tradition of sports achievement. Nightcliff Primary has a sports specialist teacher on staff and all students access a varied sports and physical education program which includes soccer, AFL, basketball, rugby, athletics and tennis. Students are also introduced to health education and issues around staying fit, being healthy and making good nutritional choices.
Hot Shots in Tennis
A key feature of our program is the ‘Hot Shots’ tennis program supported by Tennis Australia. Peter Politis from Year 5 is the School Tennis Captain and was selected to participate in the National Super 10s competition at the 2014 Australian Open. This program not only develops our student sporting prowess, it improves student confidence, academic achievement and develops an understanding of team work and building relationships.
The Most Outstanding Tennis School in Australia
Nightcliff Primary was announced the Most Outstanding Tennis School in Australia in 2014. Our Physical Education Teacher Mr. Mathew Ryan (pictured on the right) accepted the award for the most outstanding school in Australia in Melbourne. NPS won a trophy for the school and $5000 to spend on tennis facilities for our school. Our award was based on the successful ‘Hot Shots’ Tennis program which has been running with the support of our school council, Tennis Australia and Tennis NT for the past two years. This program not only develops our student sporting prowess, it improves student confidence, academic achievement and develops an understanding of team work and building relationships.
